A List of Reasons to Sing …

I took a fairly short walk along the Ouse in Lindfield/Ardingly today, to help with pain management prior to my Endometriosis operation in a few weeks time. I was curious to see if anything had been collected from the area, and came across this lovely entry to The West Sussex Gazette. It is particularly interesting and valuable to me as it illuminates the female tradition of song learning through the generations; often this isn’t as visible here as it is in the matriarchal singers of the Appalachians.  Following on from Lara and Lorna’s thoughtful and thought provoking posts on the archaeology of pain, I wonder what dull cares these women were chasing away?
