Marcel Proust’s ‘Madeleine moment’ in ‘Remembrance of Things Past: Swann’s Way’ left a deep impression on me all those years ago when I had to study the book for my A-Levels in Luxembourg. Twelve years later, sitting at my desk trying to write a chapter on the archaeology of the senses, Proust’s words seem more fitting than ever:
